JOURNAL of the JAPAN PHOENIX of MARCH 11

This Journal is our contribution and testament to the strength of the Japanese people hit by the earthquake and after quakes, the tsunami, and the continuing effects of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. 

このジャーナルを東日本大震災、津波、福島原発とその後の余波の被害に遭いながらも力強く生きる日本の人々に捧げます。

Our Journal cover represents Japan (Mount Fuji), the eternal symbol of Japan, the destructive power of the tsunami, the tree—battered but standing–which could not be destroyed by the invading ocean tsunami, and the legendary Phoenix, the beautiful bird, who rises from the ashes and destruction to live forever.  This Journal salutes the victims—and the survivors, rising like the Phoenix returning to life and rebuilding lives.

ジャーナルの表紙は日本の永遠の象徴である富士山、津波の破壊力、それをもってしても倒れることのない木、破壊と灰から生まれ永遠に生きる伝説の鳥、不死鳥を表しています。犠牲者の人々、また、不死鳥のように生を取り戻し、生活を再び築きあげている生存者の人々をジャーナルは讃えます。

We wish to honor the victims and the survivors of March 11, 2011, by creating this journal of healing and help, which we hope will disseminate available information on the many organizations and individuals contributing and caring about the all those touched by March 11, 2011:  victims, survivors and their families and friends. 

このジャーナルが癒しと助けになり、３．１１に感銘を受け、貢献、表明した多くの機関、または個人の入手可能な情報を広めることで、３．１１の犠牲者と生存者の人々に敬意を表したい、と願っています。

We are working to create something beneficial that will assist survivors, their families and friends, to find what they are seeking and what they need to rebuild their lives again.

私たちは生存者とその家族、友人が復興のために探している、または必要なものを見つける手助けとなれるような有益なジャーナルを作ることを目指しています。

The name of the journal, Journal of the Japan Phoenix of March 11, refers to the story in the mythology of the Greeks, Romans, Persians, and others peoples, of the beautiful Phoenix bird, which rose from the ashes of destruction.  It symbolizes rising from destruction and death and living again and again in what essentially, is immortality.  The Greek Herodotus and the Roman Ovid, among others, wrote about this creature.

May the Journal of the Japan Phoenix of March 11 capture the spirit of recovery from the disaster of Fukushima and the surrounding areas and serve to engender healing, hope, recovery and progress and knowledge to cope and ensure that this will not happen again.  Many thanks to everyone participating and/or volunteering help in the Journal of the Japan Phoenix of March 11, either as a subscriber, or co-editor (e.g., contributor, proofreader, translator, researcher, etc.).  May the Journal be way to heal wounds from March 11, 2011 which may take decades; and some scars will fade, but never disappear.

３．１１フェニックス日本・ジャーナルが被災地域の復興の精神を掴めること、また、癒し、希望、回復と進歩を生み出し、二度とこのような悲惨な出来事が起きないための知識の提供が出来ることを願っています。

The first copy of the The Journal of the Japan Phoenix of March 11’s inaugural Volume I, Issue I, was released to the first subscribers on June 11, 2012, at 02:46 in the afternoon, exactly one year and three months after the tragedy started…

３．１１フェニックス日本・ジャーナル第1号は読者に大震災のちょうど一年後、2012年3月11日午後2時46分にメール送信されました。

The Journal will update progress on rebuilding for the future:

一日も早い復興のために、ジャーナルでは再建の進行状況を更新していきます。

• sharing information of our readers with others,
• 読者とその他の人々の間で情報を共有し、
• bringing news of what people need and feel and see that urgently still needs to be done,
• 人々が必要とするものを知らせ、未だに至急な対応が必要なことを感じ、理解してもらい、
• teaching others through shared communication of challenges and how they were able to deal with them, and
• どのように困難に立ち向かっているかを教え、
• offering information and advice on causes of earthquakes, tsunamis, self-help information on dealing with depression, stress, fears, etc., and
• 地震、津波の情報、勧告や、鬱症状、ストレス、不安等に対し自らができる対処法についての情報を提供、
• spreading hope for the future.
• 未来に希望を広げます。
